How Student Hacks collects, uses and protects information when you visit the website.

Last revised: 24 October 2026

This policy explains how Student Hacks (“we”, “us” and “our”) uses information collected when you visit studenthacks.co.uk.

Collection and processing of personal information

We collect and process personal information in line with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the following instances:

Contact enquiries

Our contact page provides an email address for enquiries. If you email us, we use the information you choose to provide only to respond to your message and manage any necessary follow-up. This processing is covered by Article 6 (1) b) GDPR where it relates to a request from you, or Article 6 (1) f) GDPR where it is in our legitimate interest to manage correspondence.

Student Hacks does not operate or store submissions from a website contact form.

Server logs

Our web server logs certain pieces of information when you visit a web page. This information includes your anonymised IP address, the page you visit and diagnostic information such as your web browser, web browser’s user agent and your operating system.

This non-personally identifiable information is stored for up to one month and processed for error correction, troubleshooting and security purposes in our legitimate interest under Article 6 (1) f) GDPR to protect and provide reliable and error-free access to our website.

Website analytics

We use Umami, a privacy-focused analytics service, to understand aggregate website usage such as which pages are visited and the general types of browsers and devices used. Umami is configured without analytics cookies and does not collect personal data, store IP addresses or build visitor profiles.

We use these anonymous, aggregate statistics in our legitimate interest under Article 6 (1) f) GDPR to improve the website and troubleshoot technical problems.

Advertising

We use third-party advertising companies to display advertisements on our websites. With your consent, these companies use cookies and other information-gathering methods to deliver targeted adverts to you.

Google and our advertising partners, as third-party vendors, use cookies to serve adverts on our websites. Google AdSense places and uses cookies when serving adverts. These cookies enable Google to serve adverts based on your visits to our websites and other websites on the internet. You may change your Google advertising settings through the Google advertising and content network privacy policy.

If advertising personalisation is turned on, our partners will use information from your visits to this and other websites to provide advertisements about goods and services likely to interest you. These companies typically use cookies or third-party web beacons to collect this information. To learn more about behavioural advertising or opt out, visit Network Advertising Initiative or YourAdChoices.

If advertising personalisation is turned off, our partners will not collect or use your information to personalise the adverts shown to you. You may still see adverts based on the topic of the website or app, your current search terms or your general location, but not on your interests, search history or browsing history.

Opt out / Privacy Settings

If you have consented to personalised advertisements but wish to change your mind, you can click the Opt-Out link in the footer of this page.

Alternatively you can simply delete your cookies (see below). You’ll then be asked to re-consent and can opt-out.

Please note, if you opt out, you may see ads that are less relevant to you. These ads still use cookies (see below), but not for personalisation.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored on your computer or device by a website.

What are they used for?

Cookies allow us to permanently store information about your visit to enable a better experience when you return in the future and browse to other pages. For example, a cookie may store the contents of your shopping basket, whether you're logged in or if you've disabled the mobile website.

Generally cookies are used to enable the website to function correctly, by storing where you are in a particular transaction or part of the site, so that the next page you visit can be tailored to your needs.

However they are also used for other purposes like performance analysis, website statistics and advertising targeting.

Here is a breakdown of the common classifications of cookies we use and how we use them.

Strictly necessary

These cookies are essential to enable the website to function, for you to navigate. Without these you will not be able to use the site, e.g. Session Cookies.

Functional cookies

These cookies tailor the website to you by storing certain preferences. For example, a website may store a cookie on your computer or device if you switch between the mobile and desktop versions of our website.

Performance cookies

These cookies are used to improve our websites for you, by allowing us to view detailed statistics and analytics, for example which pages are the most read.

Advertising cookies

These cookies are used to decide which types of adverts to display. We use adverts on the site to allow you to browse it for free, whilst also paying the ever-increasing hosting bills.

Where these cookies are used for personalisation, we will require consent before placing them. You can opt out at any time (see above).

Student Hacks accepts no responsibility for any third party advertisements that may appear on our websites or how they may collect and use your information. When clicking on an advert you are no longer protected by this privacy policy (see: external links below).
